“If you were stranded on a desert island for the rest of your life, what three items would you want to have with you?”
We’ve all been asked that question. Sometimes the game is narrowed down to books, or movies, or albums or… you get the drift. Here is my list of non-negotiable essentials for a stranded life. This list is comprised of things that are completely the opposite of the extraneous items available via SkyMall. … Read the rest of this entry »

This week, we honor the Olympic Games.
Asian Backstreet Boys
Via the Wiki of Pedia, here’s the backstory on Wei Wei and Huang Yi Xin a.k.a. The Back Dorm Boys
As many fans do not know the real names of the Back Dorm Boys, Wei Wei is often called simply “the big one” and Huang Yi Xin “the small one”. In most videos, Wei Wei is seated on the viewer’s right and Huang Yi Xin on the left. Huang Yi Xin has a cast on his left arm in some early videos from when he got hurt playing basketball.
The Back Dorm Boys made their first video just for fun, to show to their friends. They had seen a funny 10-second lip sync video, and wanted to try creating something similar for an entire song. They completed their first video in March 2005, after much trial and error. They uploaded the finished video to the local network at their college. The other students liked it very much so that they helped to spread the videos out. The Back Dorm Boys made use of their art school education to help them prepare the composition, visual effects, and lighting in their videos.

I call it,
For the past few months I’ve been working in Dallas about once a week. Run through the Little Rock airport security at 5:30 AM. Return landing at the Little Rock gate around 6:00 PM. It’s a pretty short and sweet trip, and I’ve always been a fan of Big D, so I’m lovin’ it.
There is one part of the trip that always nags me. The loud speaker clicks on, and the familiar refrain of “…at this time please turn off all electronic devices…” Look, I’ve seen the Mythbusters episode – I know that it really doesn’t make any difference – but, still, I oblige. And during that 15 minute window climbing to 10,000′ I indulge myself with the glorious nonsense that is SkyMall. … Read the rest of this entry »
saving silverman vol.25 (now featuring a working link!)
I have a pretty bad predisposition to dislike the popular thing. Like “Hot New!” indies that incessantly pop up on the net that everyone must listen to right now, and adopt them into their music lexicon. I don’t like being told what I should and shouldn’t adore based on the wisdom of crowds.
Because of that, I can be a little bit behind the curve for actually discovering new talent like Vampire Weekend and Black Kids. I was supposed to love both of these bands a year ago. That’s exactly why I didn’t. Now, looking at my played music history, I listen to them pretty much every other day.
I’m not telling you to like them… Fine, I am. I’m just like everybody else. This is me, part of the crowd, telling you to that I think you’d love both bands.
So, here is cover queen Kate Nash covering I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You originally recorded by Black Kids.

all of me
Today is another day forcing me to realize how old I am. Seriously, I’m ready to move to Hot Springs Village and buy a WebTV. (They’re still around. I know because in January, we had to reformat a site to be operate on one)
On this day back in 1993, Sarabeth Mahnken foolishly stood up in front of a jury of her peers, and exchanged vows with me. OK, so we had more than 12 in our bridal party…there were 16, and I’m not including our beloved ushers and the other 2nd string attendants. It was a big crew. … Read the rest of this entry »

It’s time to add a little more flair to wholebrevitything.com. C’mon, can’t we all use a little more flair?
So, here’s the newness: old stuff. Until everyone tires of this, In honor of one of my new favorite flicks, Be Kind Rewind, I’m going to post classic YouTube videos every Wednesday. Most likely, you’ll have seen these clips on the internets before, but with so much stuff out there, I’m hoping you’ll dig bumping into one of these old friends once again.
This week’s clip is a neo-classic:
“Star Wars according to a 3 year old”
Here’s the backstory from the little dudette’s dad:
Wow. What was expected to be a short movie that would circulate within a small circle of friends has turned into something much more very quickly. I’m thrilled that so many people have enjoyed this video but also somewhat mortified that I added this without my daughter’s knowledge or consent. Maybe someday she will find some humor in it.
A little more about the video: She wasn’t coached to say anything, nor was she forced to make the video. She rarely stops talking. Those of you with children understand this: sometimes it’s harder to turn the faucet off than to turn the faucet on.
